Session Description
NDTAC, the Department of Education, and the Alabama State Department of Education conducted a joint presentation at the NAEHCY Conference in Orlando on Sunday, November 17, 2024. This presentation commenced with an overview of the Title I, Part D program and how it can benefit neglected, delinquent, and at-risk youth. We were joined by Nicole Herron, an IPA Federal Policy Fellow with the U.S. Department of Education to help us explore the intersectionality of students experiencing homelessness and/or foster care and the juvenile justice system by examining the different types of students, common offenses, and points of intersection that are common for this population. We hosted a panel discussion with the Title I, Part D State coordinator, Jennifer Adams, and the Homeless Education State Coordinator, LaDonna Rudolph, for Alabama. This discussion focused on how they work to coordinate services between the programs in their state and their strategies for effective collaboration. The presentation concluded with an overview of available resources to assist State and local administrators in supporting this cross-population of youth.
