Please join NDTAC for our webinar focused on Trauma-Informed Education in the COVID Era: Challenges and Strategies for Supporting Students and Staff from 2:00 to 3:00 pm ET on Thursday, September 17, 2020.  Dr. Chris Branson, C. Branson Consulting will present information that will focus on the impact of COVID- 19 and related school policies and procedures on students who have experienced trauma and find themselves in the neglect or delinquent systems. Dr. Branson will offer examples specific to different school settings both community and facility-based schools and formats inclusive of in person and virtual education options. Finally, Dr. Branson will offer recommendations for educators in addressing the combined challenges associated with COVID-19 and the impact of trauma on learning and classroom engagement.

Presenter

Dr. Chris Branson is a licensed psychologist and nationally recognized expert in trauma-informed practice for the juvenile justice system.  Since 2012, he has provided consultation on trauma-informed practice to state and county juvenile justice systems. Dr. Branson consults for several national organizations, including the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the Council of Juvenile Correctional Administrators, the National Center on Mental Health & Juvenile Justice, and the U.S. Department of Justice. He formerly served on the New York City Juvenile Justice Oversight Board and co-chaired the National Child Traumatic Stress Network's Juvenile Justice Committee.  In 2014, he joined the faculty of the New York University School of Medicine, where he led the first-ever National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) funded study of trauma-informed care in the juvenile justice system. He served as Co-Investigator on a  Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) funded project to spread trauma-informed care through all of New York City’s juvenile detention facilities.  In 2019, Dr. Branson left academia and launched C. Branson Consulting to focus on working directly with county and state juvenile justice agencies on implementing trauma-informed practices. His other areas of expertise include work-related traumatic stress in juvenile justice professionals, implementation science, program evaluation, and adolescent substance abuse.
